Italia Jackets

How do you press or iron a pink suede jacket?

My cousin gave me a pink suede jacket that has been sitting in storage for over a year. I'd love to wear it, but It is rather creased and needs pressing. Is it OK to iron it or will this damage it? I'd be greateful for any answers thanks.

  1. No, you can't iron leather of any kind. What you can try is any combination of the following: Hang it on a shaped hanger made of wood or plastic (ideally, one with shoulders wider than mere tubing). Every time you shower, hang it in the bathroom to let the steam help relax the wrinkles and folds. If there's a good place, leave it in there while everybody showers. This next one is tricky, but I've done it with success on a suede shirt from a thrift shop. Dampen an clean, but old, bath towel. Just barely damp, not wet. (I sprayed water on it with a mister, on both sides.) Put the jacket and the towel in the dryer on medium heat for about 4 minutes, just long enough for the leather to heat through. Remove it and hang immediately. Allow it to cool, smoothing it as needed. Two rounds of this fixed by suede shirt completely--but ruined the towel with color transfer.
  2. the words "pink" and "suede" together make me think it's something that should probably stay in storage.
