I just received a new suede jacket. Should I spray something on it so that it doesn't get water stained?
Light suede jacket, but afraid with all the rain here, it's going to get ruined, and I want to wear it. Should I pretreat it with something?

- Scotch-gard is a good idea.
- Yes, they make a leather & suede protector. I bought mine at Wilsons Leather but Im sure you can buy one where ever you bought your jacket. Our weather here is too wet - without the protector stuff my jacket would have been ruined.
- The surface of Suede and Nubuck leather has no protective barrier to protect it. As a result these leathers are very prone to soiling and staining. -New or newly cleaned suede should be treated with a waterproof spray to prevent the colour rubbing off, and to provide a protective coating. Test a small area first. -Dirty or rain-soaked suede should be wiped over with a clean damp cloth and allowed to dry naturally. -Brush up frequently with a special wire brush or suede block (available at fine shoe stores). -For serious discoloration, have the item professionally cleaned to restore both colour and oil. - Call your local laundry and ask them what would be the best product to use on your jacket. They will have some spray and could possibly recommend the best.
